Donating your body to science is the ultimate rare event-- a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to benefit medical teaching and research.
According to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois, many branches of medicine benefit from the use of human cadavers for study. Most significantly, the donations are used for the study of anatomy – the structure of the human body. Detailed study of the human body in medical schools is an important part of the medical curriculum and is considered the foundation of medical education.
Choosing to donate one’s body to medical education is a significant decision and one that should be shared with family or the next of kin. Moss Family Funeral Homes will work directly with the families and the Anatomical Gift Association to provide interested individuals with materials to help educate their loved ones as well as the forms necessary for authorizing the donation. When the time comes, family members will need to make arrangements with one of our funeral directors to have their loved one properly and respectfully transported to the AGA.
