Gwyneth I. Abts

October 31, 1923 - May 11, 2014

Gwyneth I. Abts, formerly of Geneva, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Delnor Glen in St. Charles.  She was born October 31, 1923, the daughter of William J. and Olga A. (Krause) Hartmann in Union, Illinois.

 Gwyneth was a member of AAUW, Kane County Home Economists, and also a member of the American Dietetic Association for over 50 years.  She was a member of Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who Women of the World.  She was employed as a food administrator for the Illinois Department of Corrections.

 She is survived by her children, Dr. Leigh (Lois) Abts, of Phoenix, MD and Michael (Joy) Abts Sr., of Geneva; five grandchildren, Margaret (Tom) Bastian, Anna (Carl) Poettker and Michael (Jamie) Abts Jr., David (Elizabeth) Abts and Brian (Marcie) Abts; a son-in-law, John Sherrill; two great-grandsons, Thomas Bastian III and Bradley Abts; and many nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her parents, Gwyneth was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1993; her daughter, Patricia Sherrill; her siblings, Christina Hartmann, Lois Hartmann, Roy Hartmann, Henry Hartmann, Florence Schwab, Francis Bohart, and Mildred Ruth.

 Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street (three blocks west of the river and one block south of Rt. 64) in St. Charles.  A memorial service will follow the visitation at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Interment will be private.
