Margaret E. Higgins

December 8, 1926 - March 18, 2017

Margaret E. Higgins, 90, of Batavia, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Presence McAuley Manor in Aurora, IL. She was born on December 8, 1926 in Batavia, IL, the daughter of Alfred and Augusta (Johnson) Thryselius.

Margaret was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Batavia. She became a Vasa Member in 1947. Margaret was able to travel with her mother back to Sweden. Before settling back in Batavia, Margaret and her husband, John “Jack”, owned and operated The Brookbend Inn, in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Upon returning to Batavia, Margaret had a career as a legal secretary.

She is survived by two sons, John (Denise) Higgins of Batavia, IL, and Thomas M. Higgins of Batavia, IL; one sister, Marilyn Thryselius; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John W. Higgins; brothers, Stan, LeRoy, Kenneth, Leonard, Evar; and sisters Esther, Ida, Lillian, and Ellen.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Avenue, Batavia, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 South Lincoln Street, Batavia, IL 60510. Margaret will Lie-in-State from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church.  Interment will follow at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia, IL.
