July 3, 1933 - April 18, 2017

Mary F. Anderson, DDS of Aurora, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Grancare Nursing Center in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin Tuesday, April 18th at the age of 83.  Mary was born July 3rd, 1933 in Plano, Illinois to Roy Allen Foster, DDS and Wilda Ione VanKirk.  She followed in her father’s footsteps, and matriculated from the University of Illinois in Chicago College of Dentistry in 1960, at a time when only about 1.2% of American dentists were women.

She practiced general, solo dentistry in Aurora, Il from 1960 until retiring in 2006, and considered her dental staff as her second family.  Mary was an avid poker and contract bridge player, loved all music (especially opera), travel, roller coasters, nature, photography, art, reading, and designed and crafted beautiful lost wax cast jewelry using her finely honed dental skills.  She especially brought her love of travel, people, and creativity together through her lifelong passion for cooking.  Mary was also passionate about many causes, provided pro bono dental services throughout her many years in practice, and supported numerous humanitarian, animal rights, and environmental organizations.  She converted to Roman Catholicism in the early 1980s and was a member of St. Rita of Cascia Church where she found comforting support from the priests, nuns, and many treasured friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Allen H. Foster, DDS and his wife Kay, her brother Ray T. Foster, MD and his wife Rita, and her former husband Jake R. Anderson.  She is survived by her sons Allen C. (Robin) Foster, MD and Eric F. Anderson, her daughter Mary K. (Steve) Foster-Dubovik, her four grandsons, Robert and Thomas Foster, and Henry and Felix Foster-Dubovik, her brothers Robert D. (June) Foster, DDS and John (Mary Ann) Foster, MD, her dear friend Joan (Don) Breyne, and many nieces and nephews.
