Gregory L Cryer

September 2, 1951 - January 6, 2018

Gregory L. Cryer, 66, of Batavia passed away following a brief courageous battle with cancer on Saturday January 6, 2018.  Greg was born September 2, 1951, in Geneva, IL the son of Harold and Farold (nee Sloan) Cryer.  He was united in marriage to Sharon Langston on March 25, 1972, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia.

Greg owned and operated Greg’s Phillips 66 from 1978 to 1982.  Greg furthered his career and was best known for his 28 years as the Service Manager at Avenue Chevrolet.  For the past four years Greg used his friendly personality and served as the security guard at West Aurora High School.  In his past time Greg enjoyed following NASCAR.  But the most important pastime was Greg’s family and especially his grandchildren who affectionally referred to him as Papa.  Papa never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events or activities.

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon; two daughter Tracy (Matt) Mathisen and Carrie (Matt) Dalicandro; three grandchildren Tyler and Trevor Mathisen and Alyssa Dalicandro; two sisters Melanie (Jeffrey) Brown and Marsha Foland; a brother-in-law Larry (Kathie) Langston; an uncle John (Barb) Cryer and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Roger (Sally nee Murray) Cox, and a brother-in-law Richard Foland.

Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, January 12, 2018 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home 100 South Third Street (one block south of Route 64 and one block west of Route 31) St. Charles, IL.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church 8 South Lincoln Street Batavia, IL.  He will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral at the church.  Interment will be held in West Batavia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude
