Louise Hartwig

February 15, 1936 - May 14, 2018

Louise Geraldine (Aadland) Hartwig passed away in the comfort of her home in St. Charles, on Monday, May 14th, 2018.  On February 15th, 1936, her loving parents, Theodore (Ted) and Lucille (Lucy) (nee Santoro) Aadland welcomed their new baby girl into their Chicago home.

Louise often spoke of her fond memories of growing up with her brother Richard and surrounded by her grandparents and all the special aunts, uncles and cousins she had on both sides of her family.  Louise enjoyed school and was a cheerleader at Steinmetz High School in Chicago, where she met and fell in love with Ralph Hartwig. Louise and Ralph shared a passion for entertaining and often opened their beautiful home and cabin to friends and family.

Louise had the heart and soul of an artist. She loved pencil drawing and decorating. She was a make-up artist at Act II Hair Designs in the 1970’s and 80’s and used these skills when involved with the Playmakers Inc theater group in St. Charles. Although Louise never learned to drive, that did not stop her from getting out and about. She was an avid walker and could often be seen walking to downtown Geneva and St. Charles just to get some exercise and do a little shopping. For many years, Louise enjoyed shopping for just the right gifts to spoil her daughters and grandchildren.

Louise is survived by her three daughters; Amy Hartwig, Darla Kroeger and Dawn Gargano, five grandchildren; Phil, Katie and Chrissy Gargano and William and Zack Kroeger and her brother; Richard Aadland. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Ralph.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 18 at Moss Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street, St. Charles. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Prairie Cemetery, St. Charles.
