Helen K. Lazarz

A funeral mass for Helen K. Lazarz, 95, will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 East 56th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, followed by committal service at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis.

A memorial mass will be held at 3:00 PM St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Friday, August 10, 2018, 400 Cedar Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174.

Helen Kruzel Lazarz passed away July 12, 2018 in Batavia, Illinois. She was born in Chicago on August 2, 1922, daughter of Katherine and Frank Kruzel. Helen attended John Spry public school and Carter H. Harrison High School, was baptized at St. Casmir Catholic Church and received her First Holy Communion at St. Roman’s parish in Chicago.

She met her husband, Theodore T. Lazarz at the Western Electric Company in Chicago where Helen was a supervisor in the crystal shop. They were united in marriage on August 19, 1950. Helen, Ted and their three children moved from Chicago to Indianapolis in 1965.

Helen was a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Hospital and served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Indianapolis. She founded the parish Peace Meal Ministry which provides food and comfort to families after parish funeral services. Helen started a women’s Bible study and received the Outstanding Educator Award in 1994 from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, leading this group for over 25 years.

She was a talented oil painter and member of the Indianapolis Art League. Her artwork was shown at the Indiana State Fair and local art exhibits.

Helen loved her family and treasured her friends. She showed us how to always look for God’s blessings. Helen was strong in faith, gracious, loving and kind to everyone throughout her life.

She is survived by her son Lawrence (Anne) Lazarz and grandsons Peter (Elizabeth) Lazarz of Indianapolis, Indiana and Dr. Gregory Lazarz of Phoenix, Arizona, her daughter Catherine and granddaughter Ericka Wilk of Wheaton, Illinois, and her daughter Nancy Lazarz of St. Charles, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Lazarz on July 3, 1996 and her older siblings, John, Walter (Chick), Josephine, Victoria Elizabeth (Betty), and Joseph.
