Jequita Mae Adams Saunders

September 9, 1923 - December 5, 2018

Jequita “Jackie” Mae Adams Saunders, of Batavia, Illinois, passed peacefully from this life on December 5, 2018 at the age of 95.

She was born to Mack Adams and Esther Duckworth Adams on September 9, 1923, in Mansker, New Mexico (approximately 10 miles south of Clayton) and raised in the North Sedan community as a farmer’s daughter.  She possessed many vivid memories of the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s on the high plains of New Mexico with lessons learned during those early years helping to sustain her throughout her life.

Having graduated from Clayton High School in 1942, she continued her education at a business school in Santa Fe, New Mexico and upon completion of her studies was hired by the New Mexico State Capitol.  During her tenure there she met Edward Saunders, a young soldier stationed at Los Alamos and they were married on November 4, 1943, prior to his deployment overseas.  After his return and the end of WWII they settled in Santa Fe and ultimately, after many ventures between New Mexico and Illinois, they made their permanent home in Batavia.  They were married almost 63 years and had three children; Linda Schmidt (Al), Ed Saunders (Gretta), and Denise Cyphers (Rich).

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Linda, and her two siblings: Virgie Adams Bush and Bud Mack Adams.  She was blessed with six grandchildren: Doug Schmidt, Kim Schmidt Rega (Mark), Cheryl Schmidt (Kevin), Erik Cyphers (Kathy), Trent Cyphers and Bryan Curry (Sheryl); two great grandchildren Chloe and Chandler Schmidt; one sister-in-law Jo Pollart Adams, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.

As an active member of the Westside Aurora church of Christ for almost 65 years, she loved working with and spending time with her church family that she dearly loved.  They were her second family for many, many years.

Jackie worked as a supervisor at Furnas Electric in Batavia for 33 years receiving the first Employee of the Year award given by that company.  After her retirement in 1974, she occasionally worked as a volunteer for the Kane County Election Board.

Traveling was one of her favorite pastimes having visited many states.  She was an avid reader until developing macular degeneration in 2006, had an amazingly witty sense of humor, made the best Italian beef ever, loved being with family during the holidays and making people feel like family even though they were not.  She was an excellent care giver to those less fortunate and was comfortable with any and all people.  Her family and church were her passion, and she was greatly loved and supported by all.  She will be missed - we miss her already.

Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 14, 2018, at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Moss Family Funeral Home.  Interment will be in River Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial Contributions in Jackie’s memory may be directed to Westside Aurora Church of Christ 1747 West Galena Blvd. Aurora, IL 60506.
