Michael Charles Craney

July 8, 1965 - January 11, 2019

Michael C. Craney, age 53, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019, surrounded by family at home in Batavia, Illinois. He was born on July 8, 1965, in Montgomery, Indiana, to Jack and Margaret (Healy) Craney, and was the youngest of eight kids. Mike was a 1987 graduate of Indiana University, and received his MBA from DePaul University in 1995. He married Danice (Holler) Craney on May 12, 1990, in Bloomington, Indiana, and together they had four children. Mike worked with several generic pharmaceutical manufacturers over the years, most recently as President of Sales and Marketing for Pharmaceutical Associates, Inc. He often joked, “They told me there was no future in selling drugs, but they were wrong!”

A devoted husband and father who created many cherished memories with his family, Mike always lived his life to the fullest, and was especially intent on seizing every moment after his cancer diagnosis. In his final weeks, he said that he had lived a life beyond anything he could have imagined. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, walking Sampson (his dog), cooking, vacationing with family, watching Hoosier basketball, attending concerts with friends, fine dining, inappropriate jokes, and adventures both near and far. Mike was a long-time, active member of Batavia United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and a counter. His warm smile and friendly greetings on Sunday mornings will be missed by a congregation who adored him.

Mike is survived by his wife, Danice (Holler), and his mother, Margaret (Healy) Craney. He is also survived by his four children: Caroline (Jake), Katharine, Connor and Carter; and seven siblings: Suzie Craney, Terri Buehner, John Craney, Tony (Vicky) Craney, Julie (Terry) LaMar, Chris (Elaine) Craney, and PJ (Laura) Craney. In addition to his immediate family, Mike will be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John (Jack) Craney, in 2014. No doubt Jack was there at Heaven's gate, waiting to greet his son.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Batavia United Methodist Church, 8 North Batavia Avenue in Batavia. A Funeral Service will be held at the church at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Cynthia Anderson and Mike Stoner officiating. Internment will be at Westside Cemetery in Batavia immediately following the service. All are invited to attend a reception at 3:00 p.m. at Lincoln Inn, 1345 South Batavia Avenue Batavia, IL, to celebrate a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center at 442 Williamsburg Avenue, Geneva, IL 60134. The family would like to thank the staffs at Northwestern Medicine Cancer Center Delnor and Season’s Hospice for their care and attention throughout Mike’s journey.
