Lorraine V. Winter

April 30, 1922 - January 13, 2019

Lorraine V. Winter, 96, of Batavia passed away peacefully Sunday, January 13, 2019.  She was born in Chicago April 30, 1922 the daughter of Stanley and Anna (nee Madura) Gonka.  She was united in marriage to Edwin Winter June 2, 1946, in Chicago, IL. 

She is survived by her children Sandra (Lincoln) Lockhart and Anthony (Chris) Winter; grandchildren Peter (Kristen) and Ben Winter and a great-grandson Julian Winter.  She is also survived by her friend and dedicated caregiver Liberty Espinosa. 

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Edwin, a brother and six sisters. 

Lorraine managed the JC Penny’s Brickyard catalog department until she retired in 1984.  She and Ed moved to Batavia in 1993, to be near their grandchildren and made many friends in the area.  She was a member of the Batavia VFW Auxiliary, Batavia Seniors Group and volunteered at the Batavia Depot Museum.  In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family, doing ceramics or playing cards with her friends. 

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Rt. 31) in Batavia. 

Prayers at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019, before proceeding to Holy Cross Church, 2300 Main St., Batavia for Mass of Celebration at 10:30 a.m.  Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Cross Church or the Batavia Historical Society.
