William J. May

October 29, 1936 - January 17, 2019

William J. May, 82, of Joliet passed away on January 17, 2019 at Rock Run Memory Care in Joliet.  In the days prior to his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on October 29, 1936 in Aurora to Henry and Frances May.

Bill attended Annunciation Grade School and Marmion Military Academy. He was a long-time parishioner of Annunciation Church. Bill lived most of his life in Illinois except for 5 years in Oklahoma living with his son, John, and daughter-in-law, Barb. He moved back to Aurora, then to Joliet under the care of his daughters, Lori and Diane. Bill worked as a 7-UP distributor, was part owner of New York Street Car Wash and was a trucker for several local businesses retiring from Feece Oil Co in Batavia.  In addition, he was a member of the Marywood Volunteer Fire Department & was a coach for the Aurora Boy’s Baseball for a number of years.

Besides his love of baseball, Bill had a love of dogs, especially, Tiny, Muffit, Tootsie and Gidget. What he enjoyed most was spending time with his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and everyone else he could help out or make smile.

Survivors include daughter Lori (Jay) Bergman of Joliet; daughter Karen May Cochran of Plano; son John (Barb) May of Edmond, OK; daughter Diane (Joe) Willson of Joliet; granddaughters Kammy (Doug) Wells; Ashley May; Madi May; grandsons; Austin May; Josh May; Cody Dryden; Shawn Cochran; greatgrands Kiana; Kendall & Mikey; brothers Jerry (Mary) May; Wally May; Danny (Cathy) May; sisters June (Rich) Kelly; Sue (Denny) Bywater; Dottie (Mike) Buckley.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Frances May; brother Gene May; brothers & sisters-in-law Don (Janet) May and Albert (Diana) May; and sister in law Rita May.

Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL.

Funeral services will begin with prayers from the Moss Family Funeral Home 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 24, 2019, before proceeding to Annunciation Catholic Church 1820, Church Road Aurora, IL to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M.  Rev. Patrick Gillmeyer, OSB is the celebrant.  Interment will follow in Marywood Cemetery. 

Our family would like to thank all the caretakers at Rock Run Memory Care for the excellent care they administered to our dad while residing at their facility.
