Jeffrey K. Hoyt

February 11, 1951 - January 26, 2019

Jeffrey K. Hoyt, 67, passed away on January 26, 2019 at his home in Sugar Grove, IL following a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

He was born to Harold and June (Clements) Hoyt on February 11, 1951 in Webster City, Iowa. He grew up in Batavia, IL and remained lifelong friends with many of his classmates. He married Mary (Gray) on May 4th, 1982. Together, they raised their three sons on a farm in Big Rock, IL. Following his retirement, Jeff and Mary moved to Clermont, FL.

Jeff was one of the original owners of Batavia Concrete. His career as a driver spanned 37 years, retiring from Prairie Material. Jeff and his sons started restoring a 1972 Chevy Pickup truck when the boys were in high school. When he retired he took the ‘72 with him to Florida to complete the project. The family has enjoyed watching him compete and win many car shows.

Jeff lended his talents and time to many organizations including: Lion’s Club (Hinckley and Elburn Chapters), Florida State Parks, Special Olympics, Superintendent of the Llama Show at the Sandwich Fair, Mecum Auctions, and volunteering as a Docent for Kane County at the Fabyan Windmill. Most recently he was a member of the Kendall County Historical Society, Fox Valley Beekeepers Association, and several Car Clubs. Jeff stayed busy traveling with Mary, helping his kids with their home improvement projects, and spoiling his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their sons Daniel (Lauren), Timothy (Amanda), and Tyler (Julie), five grandchildren: Madeline, Austin, Caden, Jason, and Aubrey, one sister, Sherry (Tom) Maloney, and their daughter Megan (Jim) Cummins, cousins, Jim Howard, Matthew and Timothy Hoyt, and Michelle Swanstrom. Also survived by mother in-law, Mary Gray, and siblings in-law: John (Debra) Gray, Patricia Paydon, Tom Gray, Jim (Lisa) Gray, and Robert (Jenny) Gray, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Jack Gray.

On Saturday February 2, 2019 the family will be receiving guests for a visitation from 12:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established to support students pursuing careers in agriculture.

The family would like to thank the staff at Northwestern Medicine Cancer Center in Warrenville for their excellent care.
