Joan Marjorie Elko

June 7, 1927 - March 29, 2019

Joan Marjorie Elko, 91, of Hinckley, IL., formerly of Batavia, IL., passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 surrounded by her family at Bethany Health Care in DeKalb, IL.  Joan was born on June 7, 1927 in Chicago, Il., the daughter of Clyde and Nancy (nee. Howes) Brading.  Joan met and married Andrew Clarence Elko and together they brought two daughters into the world. 

Joan attended Batavia Schools and graduated in the class of 1945.  She was very proud of her English heritage and enjoyed a good cup of English tea. Joan was a lover of music her entire life and she had a beautiful singing voice.  She was also a talented writer and had written many poems.  She loved to read and attend craft shows.  She was the dearest Mother and Grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Joan is survived by her two daughters, Laurie (Hans) Hansen and Linda (Larry) Haler, seven grandchildren, Denise (Chris) McWilliams, Christine (Jon) Jay, Scott (Leia) Haler, David (Jill Seifried) Haler, Melissa Lesters, Chris (Nikki) Beane, Erik (Rachel Bruce) Hansen; and ten great-grandchildren,  Madelyn, Gavin, Makenna, Jackson, Kayla, Devin, Emylee, Riley, Conner, and Charlee.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gilbert “Jack” Brading.

A private funeral service will be held at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL. 60510.   Interment will be held at East Batavia Cemetery, Batavia, IL.
