Gary John VerVynck

December 20, 1957 - April 15, 2019

Gary John VerVynck died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 15, 2019 in St. Charles, IL at the age of 61. Gary sadly lost his 12-year battle with cancer since being diagnosed with a malignant meningioma tumor at the young age of 49. During the past 12 years Gary fought through countless medical procedures, hospital stays and lastly home hospice.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sally Jo VerVynck (Hopper); children Alex David VerVynck of Aurora, IL and Andrea Lynn Kibling of Frederick, MD; and two grandchildren, Madison and Jacob Kibling.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Julia VerVynck; and his son Ryan John VerVynck.

Gary was born on December 20, 1957 in Elgin, IL.  He graduated from Larkin High School and continued on to The University of Illinois earning a degree in Accounting. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and a proud Ilini graduate.  After college Gary moved back to the Chicago suburbs where he met his wife Sally.  Gary started his career at Copley Hospital, now Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL where he worked for over 36 years.

Gary was an avid golfer and was a part of the Aces Golf League in Huntley, IL.  He could often be found at the driving range or his "home course" Hughes Creek Golf Club in Elburn, IL.

The family will be holding a celebration of life at a later date.

Guest Book

  • Robert James I left my job at a CPA Firm and started working for Gary in 2011. I worked closely for and with Gary from 2011 through 2018. I learned a lot from Gary about accounting in a hospital setting. There are many best practices I learned from Gary that I use today and will use for the rest of my career. Many of the work papers Gary created live on and will be used in the accounting department for years to come. I also had the pleasure of getting out of the office and golfing with Gary on many occasions...there were always many good laughs had on the golf course. If I was not talking to Gary about accounting or golf, we were usually talking about food as Gary and I shared a love for foods both strange and delicious. My thoughts and prayers are with the VerVynck family.
  • Jerry Marusarz I will miss my coworker and golfing partner. Gary was always fun to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with the Vervynk family.
