Robert Warren Doenges

August 15, 1918 - August 7, 2019

Robert “Bob” Warren Doenges stepped into eternal life on August 7, 2019 at Windsor Park Johnson Center.  Bob was born August 15, 1918, at home in Oak Park, Illinois to Oswald and Mary (nee. Lemont) Doenges.  Bob grew up in a large family with four other siblings.

While serving in the Navy during World War II, as a meteorologist, Bob fell in love with flying and was part of the general aviation community for over 75 years.  Bob owned four different airplanes, with his favorite being a Cessna 182 which he owned for 46 years.

Bob married Dorothy Ina Morgan on December 21, 1940, and they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, while raising their five children in Batavia.

On the day of their fifth child’s birth, Bob bought an office supply business in Wheaton, Illinois and renamed it Doenges Stationery and Supply.  With his business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit, the business grew for over four decades.  The business had multiple locations with the main location in downtown Wheaton.  At its peak the business employed 36 employees.  Over the years twenty-two different family members worked within the business.

After the passing of his wife Dorothy, Bob remarried at the age of 88 to Maurine Holmberg on June 10, 2006. They enjoyed 13 years together at Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, Illinois.

Bob’s life of Christian service included years of membership at Batavia Covenant Church, where he helped guide building committees, trustee boards, and sang in the choir which he truly enjoyed.  His love of Jesus and sense of humor continued to shine even while in the skilled care setting at Windsor, as the staff and residents will attest too.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, brothers, first wife Dorothy and grandson Mark Doenges.

Bob is survived by Maurine Doenges, five children; W. Robert “Bob” (Judy) of Arizona, Donald (Pia) of Germany, David (Jeninne), Susan “Gayle” (Joseph) Franck and James (Diane) all of Batavia; twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; Maurine’s daughters Beth (Tim) Johnson, Kristen Rosenquist, Karin (Tim) Manning, Kay (Dan) Mason, and Maurine’s large loving extended family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Avenue Batavia, Illinois.   He will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Batavia Covenant Church 1314 Main Street Batavia, Illinois 60510.  A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. also at the church.  Interment to follow at West Batavia Cemetery.
