Mary Lou White

June 6, 1938 - August 21, 2020

Mary Lou White, 82, of Big Rock, IL., formerly of Elmhurst and Chicago, IL., passed away on Friday, August 21, 2020 surrounded by her family at home.  Mary Lou was born on June 6, 1938 in Chicago, IL., the daughter of William and Margaret (nee. Hobson) Woith.  She was united in marriage to Morris White on June 21, 1958 in Chicago, IL .

Mary Lou White led a life built on love and generosity. She believed in working hard to support her family and friends. After marrying her partner for life, Morris White, she started her career. She was a determined employee at Sears for five years before serving over three decades at Jewel Osco’s main office. Mary Lou finished her career as a partner for two family businesses. While an excellent manager, she was an even better mother and grandmother. She didn’t take pride in her cooking, but she was an excellent baker. Mary Lou’s potato chip cookie recipe will be a staple for generations to come, and she taught people the right (and only) way to make a whisky sour. She could crochet a blanket faster than the self-proclaimed pros and could recite any episode or novel of Murder She Wrote. She loved Elvis and was her family’s Teddy Bear: you couldn’t help but fall in love with Mary Lou.

She filled a void that her family now feels. Mary Lou did it all: she picked up the grandkids from school, stepped up every chance she could to help her family, and wasn’t afraid to pull out the wooden spoon if you messed with her. She loved her family, and leaves us with the most important lesson of all: that family always comes first.

Mary Lou is survived by her son; William (Josette Cowsert) White, her seven grandchildren; Lindsay (David) Albano, Brittany (Carlos) Ruvalcaba, Michael White, Joshua White, Jacob White, Destiny Cowsert, Faith Cowsert, her two great grandchildren; Brooklyn and Ryan Ruvalcaba and her four legged granddaughter, Victoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her loving husband Morris White.
