Pennie E. Griesmann

December 31, 1930 - October 24, 2020

Lorraine “Pennie” E. Griesmann, age 89, passed away on October 24, 2020 at Batavia Rehabilitation and Health Center in Batavia, IL. She was born on December 31, 1930 in Batavia, the daughter of Harry and Beatrice (nee Bennett) Thorne. She was united in Marriage to Arthur G. Griesmann on April 23, 1949 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia.

Pennie Worked for Furnas Electric for 33 years as an engineer until her retirement in 1993, where she was part of the Quarter Century Club. She also worked for six years at the former Cookie Factory at the Charlestown Mall in St. Charles. Pennie was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she sang in choir, belonged to the Altar Guild, Dorcas Missionary society, and the Wednesday Morning Bible Class. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Elburn Unit #630, where she held position as an officer and committee chairperson. She served on many of the committees and all phase on the local, county, district, division, and state levels. She also volunteered with the handicapped veterans through the DuPage County Care Center through the American Legion. Pennie enjoyed traveling and spending times with her beloved family and many friends. She will be remembered for her devotion to helping others and for her uplifting personality.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Susan) Griesmann, and Kathie (Larry) Langston; four grandchildren, Tim Griesmann, Krista (Michael) Baker, and Nate (Kim) Langston and Brian (Kristin) Langston; nine great grandchildren, Ryan and Cory Griesmann, Dawson Baker, Aaron Bolton, Madison Spooner, and Kaira, Kyle, Kaylee, and Brantley Langston; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, four sisters: Rose Anderson, Bernice Hill, Gwen Thorne, and Elinor Woolcolt Holdeman.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 950 Hart Road Batavia, IL.  Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions of occupancy, the visitation and funeral service will be limited. All visitors entering the church are required to wear a face covering.  Be prepared to wait if occupancy becomes an issue. I knew Pennie to be a caring, knowledgeable and hard-working member in all her Auxiliary membership roles. Pennie was amazing and I will miss her very much.
