Dr. James Edward Courtney

March 2, 1938 - December 27, 2020

Dr. James (“Jim”) Edward Courtney, age 82, of Seminole Florida, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 2, 1938. James is survived by his children: James (Margaret) and John (Carol) Courtney; grandchildren: Matthew Mohr, Adrianne (Cameron) Klis, and Jack Courtney; and great-grandchild Adelina. He was preceded in death by his wife Fran Courtney, parents Earl and Arlene Courtney and daughter Kellie Courtney.

Jim was a thoughtful, intellectual and generous person who dedicated his life to helping and supporting other people. He spent the majority of his career as a school psychologist in the Geneva, IL public school system and obtained his Doctorate from the Illinois Institute of Technology during that same time.   After obtaining his doctorate, he gradually began developing his private practice.  Jim retired from the Geneva school district after 30 plus years and expanded his private practice by continuing to help children. As a young family, Jim and Fran loved taking their children on road trips, camping, and continued traveling during retirement. Having grown up one block from Wrigley Field, Jim was a lifelong Cubs’ fan and was even a talented enough player himself to have tried out for the team at one point.  He was beyond thrilled to see his dream become reality when his beloved team won the World Series in 2016.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 5th at the Moss Family Funeral Home in Batavia, Illinois.  Due to COVID restrictions, the service will be limited to immediate family.
