Gary Lee Sutphin passed away on December 30, 2020 in Geneva. He was born on October 15, 1940 to Elmer and Lillian (nee Wildman) Sutphin in Sterling. He was united in marriage to Judith Moulding on October 22, 1960 in Batavia.
Gary graduated from Prophetstown High School class of 1958. After high school in 1958, he joined the United States Marine Corp. His service included being stationed at MCLB in Barstow, California and Camp S.D. Butler in Okinawa, Japan, before his discharge at the end of 1962. After serving in the Marines, he and Judy moved back to Batavia where he started his long career in Printing. He worked for several printing companies but worked for 30 years at Vertis Advertising as a Pressroom Maintenance Supervisor until retiring in 2005. He spent his retirement enjoying his hobbies of repairing lawn mowers and snow blowers, doing home repairs and remodeling projects, helping his neighbors and fishing with his grandsons. He recently took up sewing and enjoyed making quilt tops to donate to the Illinois Quilts of Valor. He was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Batavia Lodge #682 and bowled many years with the Moose Heads bowling team. For many years Gary was active in The Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Master with Pack 112 and as a Scout Master with Troop 12 of Batavia.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years Judy, his children; Jeffrey (Connie) Sutphin, Gary (Jennifer) Sutphin Jr., Thomas (Tammy) Sutphin, Cynthia (Kurt) Hall, and Peggy (David) Brzoska. Grandchildren; Eric Sutphin, Nicole (Michael) Dial, Jacob Sutphin, Jarred Hall, Steven Hall and Mallory Brzoska, Great Grandchildren; Brayden and Zachary Sutphin and Mason and Zoey Dial, Brothers and Sisters in Law; Leroy and Anita Karp, Dixie Moulding, Larry and Sylvia Chiplis and Tim and Mary Morrow. And many Nieces and Nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lillian Sutphin, Parents in Law George and Audrey Moulding, Brother William Sutphin. Brother and Sister-in-Law Marvin and Juanita Sutphin and Brother-in-Law Thomas Moulding.
