Diana Hiatt-Carter

January 18, 1939 - May 6, 2021

Diana Hiatt-Carter, 82, of North Aurora passed away peacefully on May 6, 2021, from natural causes at Edward Hospital in Naperville.  Diana was born January 18, 1939 in Chicago, IL the only daughter of Charles and Edna (nee Bloom) Norman.  She was united in marriage to Lester Carter, Jr.

Diana grew up in Chicago, attended Fenger High School and Cosmopolitan Prep School and holds an AA degree from Thornton Community College. She had a career in the banking world, employed for 26 years at Heritage Pullman Bank in Chicago, starting as a teller, worked in the Brinks Department, and eventually finished her service at Pullman as a head teller. Since her retirement, she and her husband lived in Kentwood Louisiana, where they were very active in their church and community activities. They raised many dogs over the years, and Diana has dedicated herself for most of her life to support charities that involve rescuing homeless and mistreated animals. After the death of her husband in 2012, and with health issues of her own, Diana eventually decided it was time to move back to the Chicago area. She has resided in Assisted Living for the last 5 years, and enjoyed the activities that were provided, including leading a weekly Bible Study group for 3 years.  Diana was an avid reader and would typically read about 3 novels a week. She loved house plants and had a fabulous “green thumb” with an uncanny ability to save “sick plants”. Diana adored all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was saddened when her ability to visit family was curtailed due to COVID safety restrictions.

Diana is survived by her daughter Lindy (Howard) Hiatt-Hecox; her stepson, Jarvis (Mauretia) Carter; two grandchildren, Lori (Tom Kochanowski) Greenlee, Adam (Paulina) Greenlee; three step-grandchildren, LaQuita (Carlos Jones) Carter, Jarvis (Tiersa) Carter, Jr., Gynell (Carlton Hart) Carter; four great-grandchildren, Alicja, Dylan, Lily, Juniper; and four step-great-grandchildren Keimon (KJ), Jaiden, Tristen, and Raiven.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lester Carter, Jr.

Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL.  Following the visitation, a short prayer service will start at 12:00 P.M.  Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. in Oak Hill Cemetery 11900 South Kedzie Avenue Blue Island, IL.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Best Friends, an organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and displaced animals and to the Anti Cruelty Society
