Kathy Lou Hwass Crampton Marrapodi

March 3, 1947 - January 25, 2012

It is with great sadness that the family of Kathy Lou Hwass Crampton Marrapodi shares the news of her passing on January 25, 2012.  Kathy was a loving wife to Gregg Marrapodi (married on January 3, 2012); a cherished and generous mother to Kimberly Chambers (Josh), Ashley Keays (Jason), and Lyndsey McCue (David); a beloved grammy to Tyler, Sean, Connor, Kelsey, Parker, Emma, and Madeline; a newly-minted step-mother and grandmother to Pamela (Ray), David (Jenina), Daniel (Andrea, Otis, Zora), and William; and a precious daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend.  Kathy was predeceased by her grandson, Gabriel John.  Her soul and spirit will be celebrated for the rest of our lives. Kathy’s varied career spanned roles such as IHOP server, bank teller, high school French teacher, professional fundraiser and development director, advertising and marketing professional, healthcare executive, Christ Clown, prayer-group leader, RV driver, retreat leader, “ding-a-ling” (hand bell choir member) and trolley company manager.  Kathy had a strong faith base and a particular devotion to Mary, our Blessed Mother.  She was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church serving as a lector, Eucharistic minister, choir member, and general “I’ll help in whatever way necessary” volunteer at St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn and St. Scholastica in Woodridge.  She was also a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe in Port Charlotte.  The family would like to extend its deepest thanks to Dr. James Orr and Dr. David McAtee, mom’s physicians in Florida.  In addition, we are proud to call the staff at Tidewell Hospice House “family”, too.  Their loving care of Mom – and us – made her last days comfortable and peaceful.  Celebrations of Kathy’s life will be held in Florida with a visitation from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, January 27, 2012 at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, 635 East Marion Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 West Charlotte Avenue, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Visitation will be held in Illinois from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, January 30, 2012 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Avenue, Batavia, IL 60510. A Funeral Mass will be held at 6:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at St. Scholastica Catholic Church, 7800 Janes Avenue, Woodridge, IL 60517.

  • gail aronoff Dear Kim and family, I am very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Take comfort in knowing that her struggle is over and she is at peace. Having walked the same road with my father and his battle with cancer, I know how the uncertainty of the disease and its progress is very difficult to endure for everyone involved. I hope you find many quiet moments to celebrate your mom's life and to enjoy the memories of her that brought joy to you and others. Take care, Gail Aronoff
  • Eileen Haun My heart is saddened by the news of Kathy's passing. I regret not telling her thank you for the kindness and thoughtfulness she gave me many years ago. She was an important part on my life's journey. Thank You Kathy Crampton for giving , me a place to live, food to eat and conversation to increase my faith in Jesus and Mary. Thanks also to Kim, Ashley and Lyndsey for sharing their home with me while I was in college. Especially Lyndsey who had to give up her bed so I could sleep in it. Know that all of you will continue in my prayers. This is sad time now, but your sorrows and prayers will blossom to something wonderful in the future. Take care, Love, Eileen
