Gwendolyn "Gwennie" A. Rau

June 25, 1930 - May 10, 2012

Gwendolyn “Gwennie” A. Rau, age 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center in St. Charles.  She was born June 25, 1930 in St. Charles, IL the daughter of Gunnar and Helen (nee Johnson) Henningson.  She was united in marriage to Ralph Rau on February 24, 1951.  Gwennie was a kind and generous woman who put her family and friends first.  She had a fabulous personality and will be remembered for her joke telling and her contagious laugh.  She was an accomplished cook and baker.  She also enjoyed traveling.  She is survived by her son, David Rau of Batavia; a brother, Jerry Henningson; and her nieces and nephews, Janice (Jim) Magnuson, Robert (Wendy) Modine, Steven Modine, Carol (Steve) Herra, Mike (Colleen) Henningson, Laura Henningson, and Ed (Michelle) Rau.  In addition to her parents, Gwendolyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph; her loving daughter, Cathy (nee Rau) Newman; her brother, Gunnar Henningson Jr. and a sister Marilyn Modine.   Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St. (three blocks west of the river and one block south of Rt. 64) in St. Charles, where a memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will be private in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
