Vivian V. Plumer

June 3, 1917 - June 24, 2012

Vivian V. Plumer, 95, of St. Charles, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2012 at Tower Hill Healthcare Center in South Elgin. She was born June 3, 1917 in Milan Township, IL, the daughter of Melvin and Ila (nee Stone) Jacobs.  Vivian donated her time and talents to various organizations throughout her life.  She was very active in the St. Charles Free Methodist Church.  She played the piano and organ from 1954-1999. She served in the Women’s Missionary Society and started and conducted the Junior Choir and was a Sunday school teacher. She served as secretary for the World Day of Prayer for several years. She was a member and chaplain of the local chapter of AARP until it disbanded in December 2006. She volunteered in hospice; at Riverwoods in St. Charles; and at the reception desk at the old Delnor Hospital for 20 years. She was very active in Knit for Kids Sweater Project sponsored by Guide Post magazine. She knitted 40 sweaters to send to kids in need. From 1996-2010 she volunteered at Provena Pine View Care Center in St. Charles. Every week at the Center, she would host Hymns with Vivian, playing the piano and singing for the residents.  She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Bruce Plumer; children, Sandy Ainsworth of Tucson, AZ and Bill (Janet) Ainsworth of Elgin; step-children, Bob (Joy) Plumer, Karyl Bruketa, and Mike Plumer; grandchildren Tony, Rick, Sheila, Randall, Katie, and Carrie; 6 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn (Art) Biederman, and a son-in-law, Claude Harrelson.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Maylene Harrelson, and a brother, Verald Jacobs.  Visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. 3rd St. in St. Charles.  A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the funeral home. Pastor Roger Crites will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Charles.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 215 W. Illinois, Suite 1C, Chicago, IL 60654.

  • Kathy Silber While visiting friends at Pineview, I enjoyed so much her "Hymns with Vivian." She brought so much joy to the residents and ministered to me, too! She was indeed a special lady.
  • Linda Cox Vivian was like my second "mom"! She was a very SPECIAL lady! All of us whose lives she touched in soooo many sweet ways will really miss her! She spent her first Sunday in Heaven today and we will see her again when it is our turn to go home!
