Ronald G. Fossel, 78, of Batavia, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva. He was born April 8, 1934 in Chicago, the son of Walter and Kathryn (nee Bowen) Fossel. Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, stationed aboard the icebreaker U.S.S. Atka. He worked for the FAA as an air traffic controller for thirty years. He also was owner of Alison’s Bar and Restaurant in Batavia for eighteen years. He was past commander of the American Legion in Geneva and an active member of the Batavia Moose Lodge. He is survived by his significant other, Dee J. Foster, of Batavia; two daughters, Mary Ornstein of Libertyville, IL and Heidi (Michael) Murphy of San Francisco, CA; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Grant, and Gilbert Ornstein and Ashley and Patrick Murphy; two sisters, Barbara (Bob) Gurski of North Riverside, IL and Karen (Gene) Snyder of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his ex-wife, Nancy Fossel, and a son-in-law, Lee Ornstein. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., in Batavia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
