Harry F. Awalt, 90, of North Aurora Passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He was born January 7, 1922 in Ridgway, IL the son of George Franklin and Effie (nee Jenkins) Awalt. He was united in marriage to Reta Rister June 26, 1943 in Ridgway, IL. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1st and 3rd Divisions in the South Pacific during WWII. Harry moved to St. Charles, IL in 1951, where he was employed by the St. Charles Manufacturing Company (St. Charles Kitchens) for 14 years. He then purchased the Geneva Body Shop in Geneva, IL, which he owned and operated for 20 years. After a short retirement he went to work for the Geneva School District as a School Bus Driver for 8 years. Harry then switched to the Laidlaw Transportation Company of Batavia where he continued as a Bus Driver for another 10 plus years. Harry was a member of the Batavia American Legion Post 1197, and Past Assistant Scout Master for the Troop 25 in St. Charles, IL. He served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of St. Charles, Calvary Baptist Church of Geneva, and the First Baptist Church of Batavia. He is survived by his wife Reta M. Awalt of 69 years; a son Gary F. (Fiancée Jodeen Miller) Awalt, of North Aurora; three grandchildren Scott (Ginger) Awalt, Stacy (Kurt) Barrett, and Sheryl (Douglas Fitzgerald) Franzen; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph and Kaitlan Barrett, Mary and Elizabeth Franzen, Jake, Jonah and Angel Awalt, Michael and Mark Fitzgerald; a sister Opal Nass of Ridgway, IL; special friends Sue and Fritz Taylor of Bascom, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, George, Dale and Carl; sisters Rhea Brown, Geneva Towne, Iona Teeder, Louise Lampert and Eva Rister. Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2012 at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Moss Family Funeral Home in Batavia, IL. Entombment will follow at the North Cemetery in St. Charles, IL.
