Madelyn Shirley Bast, 91 of Abilene, Texas passed away October 29, 2012 at Windcrest Healthcare Center after a long illness with Alzheimer’s disease. Madelyn was born September 24, 1921 in Batavia, Illinois to C.A. Nelson and Mae Julia (nee Hanosh) Nelson. She lived most of her younger years in Batavia, Illinois. Madelyn graduated from Batavia High School class of 1939. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Nejedlo June 9, 1945 in Batavia, Illinois. The family then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona after their 2nd daughter was born. There she lived most of her life. She later was united in marriage to Elmore Bast February 2, 1977. In 2004 she relocated to Abilene, Texas to live with her daughter. Madelyn loved animals. They were her companions later in life. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and living summer months in Pinetop, Arizona, where she and her husband Elmore had a summer home. She frequently enjoyed road trips to Batavia, Illinois with her cousin Norma Johnson. Most of all she dearly loved and cared for her four granddaughters. You are the angel in our lives, you are loved dearly and will be forever missed. She is survived by her daughter, Roberta and son-in-law Robert Hart of Abilene, TX; four beautiful granddaughters Lauren Dye of Scottsdale, Arizona; Dr. Crystal Hart of Silverdale, Washington; Sabrina Hart and Natasha Hart of Abilene, TX; sisters Lorraine Peddy and Marion Blakesley both of Batavia, Illinois; cousins, nieces and nephews she was always so fond of. She is preceded in death by her parents, C.A. Nelson and Mae Julia Nelson; brothers Alfred Nelson, Carl Nelson and Allen Nelson; sisters Evelyn Sytar, Margaret Urich; her husband Kenneth Nejedlo and daughter Rebecca Nejedlo Jorgensen; her husband Elmore Bast. Visitation will be held 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 2, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.
