Muriel E. Sprawka, 92, died on Tuesday, February 05, 2013 at the Harry Ekstam Assisted Living in Batavia. She was born on October 20, 1920, the daughter of John H. and Zora (Sheffer) Straight, in Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to Chicago as a child and married Irvin J. Sprawka on August 30, 1941. She resided in Park Ridge, Illinois for over 20 years, retired to Mountain Home, AR, returning to Illinois to live at The Holmstad in Batavia. Muriel was active in scouting and as a volunteer in the office of The Boy Scouts. She enjoyed ball room dancing, square dancing, playing cards, camping, canoeing, and fishing. She had a great sense of humor. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia. She is survived by her daughter Lynn ( John) Maher of Summerfield, Florida; her son John (Ginny) Sprawka of North Aurora, IL; five grandchildren; Wendy Maher of Evergreen, Co, Jennifer (Doug Mabie) Maher, of Singapore, John (Becky) Maher of Hudson, WI, Jonathan (Sarah) Sprawka of Lake Zurich, IL, Jaclyn Sprawka of Batavia, IL and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin J. Sprawka, son Michael Arthur Sprawka, and her sister, Betty Powell. Visitation will be held 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. immediately following the visitation, then proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church 2300 Main Street Batavia to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow in West Batavia Cemetery.
