Leonard E. Potempa, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale. He was born July 28, 1928 in Chicago, the son of Albert and Valarie (nee Tryba) Potempa. He was united in marriage to Irene Mikrut on October 8, 1950 in Chicago. He was a standout baseball player for Kelly High School in Chicago, and was drafted into the minor leagues by the Philadelphia Phillies however he opted to go another direction. Leonard was a hard working man, and served as Plant Manager for Imperial Brass in Niles, IL for 40 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene of Batavia; his son, Dr. Leonard D. (Norma) Potempa of Downers Grove; his daughter, Beverly (Pete) Maher of Batavia; a grandson; David Potempa; and a granddaughter, Amanda Maher. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his three brothers, John, Valentine, and Raymond Potempa. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 West Main Street in Batavia. Rev. Keith Romke celebrant. Interment will be private.
