Martha Turcany

September 30, 1917 - February 15, 2013

Martha Turcany, 95, of Batavia passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Michealsen Health Center in Batavia.  She was born September 30, 1917 in Germany the daughter of Konrad and Martha Gatz.  She is survived by a niece Barbara (Roland) Tucker of Chicago Heights; a nephew Richard Turcany of Bourbonnais, IL; a brother George (Elfriede) Gatz of Germany; and nieces and nephews in Germany.  She is preceded in death by her husband Nicholas A. Turcany.   Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. 10:00 A.M. following the visitation a procession will travel to Holy Cross Catholic Church 2300 Main Street to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva, IL.

  • Kim Corbett Johnson I'm so sorry for your loss. Martha was a sweet woman, a dear neighbor. I am very inspired by her strength, independence, how she was so responsible as a community member of Batavia. When she started to have health problems that she felt could get in the way of her safe driving, she gave up driving so she wouldn't hurt anyone. Even in her later years of life before moving to the nursing home, she made sure to have her home kept up nice. I will never forget her, I am so sorry I didn't keep my promise and visit her more often in the nursing home. Rest in peace, Martha, we love you.
