Gene Paul VanWyhe

January 23, 1935 - February 20, 2013

Gene Paul VanWyhe, age 78, of St. Charles, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Tower Hill Healthcare Center in South Elgin, IL.  He was born January 23, 1935 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of Lambert and Vesta (nee Danish) VanWyhe.  He was united in marriage to Doris Janeczek on January 7, 1978 in St. Charles.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a dedicated member of both the St. Charles VFW Post #5036 and American Legion Post#342.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris; his children, Scott (Betsy) VanWyhe of Delano, MN, Troy VanWyhe  of Oceanside, CA, and Jordy VanWyhe of Oswego, IL; his step-children, Craig (Julie) Eddy of Summerville, SC, Carol (Steve) Sievek of Elk River, MN, Dianne (Steve) Bonta of Hollis, NH, Linda (Tim) Clegg of Fort Mill, SC, and Elizabeth (Jim) Brooks of Oakridge, SC; his 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Loris Harness of Olney, IL.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; and his brother, Lambert VanWyhe.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 South Third Street (three blocks west of the river and one block south of Rt. 64) in St. Charles. 

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
